Ski Club General Meeting

Thursday, February 18, 2010

7 pm @ Round Table Pizza

The meeting was called to order by Woody Hogan, president, at 7:08 pm.  There were 13 members present, a quorum, and one guest, Steve Cox.  The minutes from the January 21, 2010 meeting were read by Sherry Babagian, secretary, and a correction was made to the minutes by Debbie Stewart, VP of Travel, who said there will be no ski in/ski out lodging at the Sun Valley, ID ski trip.  Minutes were then approved unanimously.

The Treasurer and the Newsletter Chairmen were not present to give a report.

Rosalie Fisher, Membership Chairman, issued an updated list of members with email addresses and telephone numbers.

Debbie Stewart, Vice President of Travel, asked for an appraisal of the FWSA Ski Trip to Keystone, CO, and everyone who went and were present at the meeting said they had a fabulous time.  Debbie reported that in the individual ski races Sierra Council placed 2nd in points which was quite an achievement.  Debbie and George Stewart, Woody Hogan and Ed Bergreen each won medals in the ski races.  Ed won the raffle to ride a snowmobile and Woody accompanied him, both having a great time.

Debbie reported that the FWSA Ski Trip for next year will be at Sun Valley in Idaho.  She had a brochure for everyone to see.  She reported that Sun Valley has the best snowmaking equipment in the United States.  She is requesting lodging for 64 pillows for Sierra Council which she expects to fill.  Condos will run approximately $900.00/week and there will be a short walk to the lifts.  Lodging is first come/first served, so she urged people to sign up early.

George Stewart, Webmaster, reported that the Sequoia Ski Club website has been updated, and pictures from the recent Keystone, CO trip will be on the website soon.

Old business:  Debbie reported that anyone wanting to ski at Northstar in the Lake Tahoe area should make their reservations for lodging on their own and do it soon.  Dates for that trip are March 5-7, 2010.  She advised everyone going that weekend to purchase their lift passes at the Race Ticket Booth and show their FWSA membership card for discounted lift tickets.  David Mayeda reported that there will be a race clinic on Sat. March 6th and any member can sign up at Northstar to participate.  At the clinic skiers will be put in small groups with a coach for each group.  One of the tactics to be instructed in the clinic will be where to turn when skiing.  Debbie asked that anyone interested in going to Northstar the March 5-7 weekend should make their reservations for lodging first, and then let her know so she can coordinate where everyone can meet once they get to Northstar.

Old business:  Woody discussed the Sunday, March 21st Sequoia Ski Club Birthday Party to be held at Sierra Summit.  He said that by teaming up with one of the Visalia Rotary clubs that day we can purchase a one day lift pass for that day at a discounted price of $30.00 instead of the normal $55.00.  Anyone wishing to purchase a lift pass for March 21st must give Woody or Debbie a check in advance.

Another feature of the birthday party is that we will all eat lunch together.  It was moved and seconded that each person either bring their own lunch, or buy it at the Quonset Hut cafeteria.  A discussion followed and then the motion was brought to a vote and passed unanimously as stated.  There will be a birthday cake to help celebrate, and hopefully enough snow for everyone to have a good time skiing.  Gary Smith, Social Director, will coordinate the cake and plates/forks/napkins.  Gary said he would bring a super cake.  Anyone wishing to help with the party is asked to call or email Gary Smith @pargrs@gmail.com.

New Business:  No Thursday Ski Club Meeting in March.  Next Ski Club meeting will be brief and be held at Sierra Summit during lunch at the birthday party on March 21, 2010.

Change of meeting site for April 15th meeting TBA at a later date.

Meeting was closed by unanimous vote at 7:56 pm.

Respectively submitted,

Sherry Babagian, Secretary
